choir, workshops & yoga classes to create a beautiful life

Autumn Concert

We call them choirs for lack of a better word, because a lot of what we do is learning to harmonize together, support each other, and co-regulate using the power of lyrics, melody, and shared story. Some of us who participate in this self-selected, non-auditioned group of women are there just for that (and not for performance, which is celebrated), and others are eager to share a little bit of the goodness we savour each week with friends and family with a showcase of some of the original music born from this discourse and collaboration, and with some group song that includes the community.

Please join us for our concerts that wrap up our autumn series. There are two of them, and they include songs from The Songkeepers and Malina, the Doukhobor-inspired, new sister choir that meets at Tarry’s. We welcome you to join us! Limited tickets are available at the door; advance tickets coming soon (or available from any choir members). Please note, online purchases are more expensive, as fees apply. Door Prices or tickets from choir members: $25, Students and Seniors by donation. Tickets are first come, first served.

November 22, 7pm Tarrys

WELCOME, FRIEND

The Elder Flower empowers you to live an abundant life.

A story that started in recovery but grew to include a creative community!

We began as a community of women and nonbinary folks recovering from substance use, disordered eating, perfectionism, abuse, anxiety, depression, grief, infant loss and more. Those early days were spent practicing yoga and sharing in the beautiful Slocan Valley. These weekly gatherings continue, and are by donation, in Jen’s home studio in the Slocan Valley.

What we discovered was profound: many women crave deeper connection—to themselves, to a circle of supportive women, to their creative side, to their authentic voice. Soon, women who weren't navigating traditional “isms” use began joining The Elder Flower offerings, drawn by the sense of belonging and community. We learned everybody is recovering from something.

Now, Jennifer facilitates gatherings with a broader community—with two choirs exploring ancestry, community, and folklore, as well as workshops. The same tools and resources we use to create a life we don't need to medicate from turn out to be exactly what people need to feel supported while navigating our complex world.

After expenses, proceeds from paid offerings keep the free recovery community funded and allow us to offer scholarships and pay-what-you-can tickets to shows, nourishing a community thriving on creativity, movement, connection, and humanity.

I’M JEN,

My ancestors lived in villages. I think it’s why I love bringing people together.

I am a storyteller, connector & creator.

I delight in bringing people together to co-create a place where we can tap into the wild of nature, find our voices and connect deeply.

I am obsessed with topics of Belonging and Community, fascinated by the work of teachers like Joanna Macy (The Work That Reconnects), Richard Rohr and Adrienne Maree Brown. I want to be an elder in my community who supports and contributes. I have connected with others who yearn for connection, belonging and recovery, too! This project began in my home studio, but it has expanded into several community spaces and continues to be shaped and informed by every person who practices here: students, teachers, therapists, gardeners, artisans, and musicians, working together to heal our land and our hearts. Welcome to the Elder Flower. We’re growing something special!

In all of our offerings, you don't need to share or perform. You can just come and listen, if that’s what you need.

THE RECOVERY CIRCLE

Yoga & Sharing for Women and Non-Binary People in Recovery

Diverse pathways to recovery include tools.  A few things that have supported me early on and still today are somatic movement, breath, meditation, and community, and I have combined them in a free, by donation offering that has been happening nearly every week in the Slocan Valley since 2022.

Our classes are trauma-informed, gentle, and are followed by herbal tea and voluntary sharing (or just listening). All props are provided, and the Elderflower Studio is located just off Highway 6 in Passmore.

Please register, as space is limited.

The Sharing Circle

Our stories dispel shame and  help us realize that we have so much in common.  They remind us how much we’ve grown, and show us that we are in this together.

Here are some of mine.  Here are some of hers.  Perhaps, you might share one of yours.

“I cannot rave enough about this wonderful woman. She is a dedicated teacher and forever student who shares her practice with humility, courage, and generosity. If you are curious about connecting with her and the community we've been building no need to hesitate. You will be welcomed with unconditional love, non-judgment, and a warm embrace (flaws and all). She has created a space that is nourishing and safe! Sincerely grateful to have such a genuine and inspiring teacher and friend. She is one of a kind!”
